Resumen

Esta tesis tiene embargado el acceso al texto completo hasta el 16-04-2025 (General); Like Water for Chocolate and Kitchen are two literary works that take place in different cultural contexts but share a narrative approach in a space that is little attended: the kitchen. The main objective of this paper is to explore the forms of representation and the symbolic meaning of the kitchen space in these two works, as well as the discourse of power, gender and spirituality within this space. Through comparative analysis, we will reveal similarities and differences in the representation of the kitchen space in these works and delve into the impact of this space on women's identity, self-affirmation, and self-fulfillment. The thesis consists of four chapters: the first one it draws on critical theories of space such as those of Henri Lefebvre, Michel Foucault and Edward W. Soja, as well as feminist theories of space, to explain the concepts of space, materially, spiritually and culturally, the relationship between space and literature is also outlined. In the second chapter it presents the biographies of the two authors, as well as their creative backgrounds. The third one analyzes the main contents and narrative characteristics of the two works. In the fourth chapter, a comparative analysis of the kitchen space in both works is conducted, leading to conclusions (Summary)
