Qué, quién, dónde, cuándo, por qué y cómo: las retraducciones de Moby-Dick en España

Abstract

Este artículo aborda la retraducción de obras literarias desde una perspectiva teórica y práctica. Con el fin de establecer los principios teóricos que se van a emplear en el estudio, se desarrollan las seis variables textuales y contextuales propuestas por Alvstad y Assis (2015), basadas en el tradicional enfoque de las «Five W´s and One H», que ayudan a analizar en diferentes niveles traductológicos externos e internos las retraducciones que se quieren estudiar. Se establece pues qué es retraducción, quién retraduce y cuándo, dónde, por qué y cómo se retraduce. A continuación, se estudia y se coteja cada uno de esos seis criterios en las retraducciones publicadas en España de Moby-Dick (1851), de Herman Melville, obra que ha sido retraducida en dieciocho ocasiones desde que apareciera la primera versión en 1940. Los análisis de cómo las seis variables seleccionadas para este estudio actúan en las diferentes retraducciones de esta novela permiten, por una parte, conceptualizar y sistematizar el fenómeno de la retraducción; y, por otra, aportan a este estudio datos relevantes sobre la recepción y el impacto literario de MobyDick en España a través de estas dieciocho versiones aparecidas en ochenta años.
