Abstract

This research presents an overview of the Spanish mobility and internationalization context, providing current figures and focusing on the experience of international Erasmus students who choose a Spanish higher education institution. Thanks to the data obtained through the ESN Survey 2021 (Erasmus Student Network, 2022), an initiative carried out by the European association Erasmus Student Network 2022, we identified several potential areas for improving mobility in key elements to the internationalization of higher education, such as student experience, institutional support and services received. A quantitative methodology was used to conduct a survey in which a total of 10,696 students participated, of which 11.,43% correspond to the sample of incoming students in Spain. The results show dissatisfaction with the support received for certain services, among which accommodation services or the lack of activities or services for greater integration in the host university are distinguished. Moreover, a number of concepts that affect international students’ mobility are analyzed, among which economic, documentation and courses, or accommodation issues stand out, as well as mental health factors, a topic which has not been reported with so much prominence in the past.
