Abstract

The ms. 154 from El Burgo de Osma, the first known from Alonso de Espina's Fortalitium fidei, contains a series of representations related to different wars fought between Christians and Muslims throughout history, most of them unknown until now. This study aims to analyse the iconography of this illumination and frame it within the study of the iconography of warfare developed at the end of the Middle Ages in the Iberian Peninsula. The main interest of this paper focuses on the battle scenes, as well as on the complementary relationship between texts and images that give rise to the plastic narratives of the conflict, and which, where appropriate, help us to identify and contextualise them historiographically.
