Abstract

El objetivo del siguiente artículo es ahondar en los mecanismos de promoción vigentes entre los principales cargos de gobierno de la Italia española durante el reinado de Felipe IV (1621-1665). En este contexto, centraremos nuestra atención en las similitudes y diferencias entre las variadas trayectorias políticas de los virreyes y gobernadores de Nápoles, Sicilia y Milán, con vistas a verificar la existencia de un cursus honorum ‘intervirreinal’ entre estos centros de poder. Junto a ellos, será necesario traer a colación la legación en la Sede Apostólica, cuyos embajadores adquirieron a lo largo de sus misiones un conocimiento del tablero político italiano que, como veremos, los hizo idóneos para promocionar posteriormente al gobierno de los virreinatos hispanos.
