Fecha de Lectura: 20-09-2022 (General); This dissertation is a comparative and analytical study between two well-know works of medieval spanish and persian literatures: the Castilian Sendebar (1253) and the Persian Book of Sindbad or Sendbād-Nāmē composed by Muḥammad b. Ali Ẓahiri Samarqandi arround the year 1160. The importance of the Sendebar lies in the fact that, together with the Calila e Dimna (1251 or 1261), it is the first collection of tales from the East that arrived in the Iberian Peninsula, and the importance of the Persian one compiled by Moḥammad b. Ali Ẓahirí Samarqandi is the earliest preserved in this language. In this work includes the translation into persian of the whole Spanish Sendebar and the comparation and analysis of all the tales (exempla) narrated by the counselors, the woman and the prince inside the narrative frame. In the analysis all the versions bellongins to the Eastern Branch has been considered, specially the Syriac and Greek versions and the one that can be found in the collection of stories called The One Hundred and One Night that has so far mostly been ignored in modern scholarship conerning the Book of Sindbād. This work will allow us to achieve a better understanding of the complex textual transmission of this book from East to West and will reinforce the thesis supported by Perry about the Middle Persian origins of the Book (Summary)
