Brief description ot the activity

I obtained my PhD degree at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid with a thesis focused
on coordination chemistry (2010). This period was funded through an FPU postgraduate
fellowship and included 2 pre-doctoral stays at Oxford University, UK. In 2011, I
joined the Instituto de Cerámica y Vidrio (ICV-CSIC) for a 4-year postdoc, applying my
experience in chemical synthesis to the manufacturing of novel materials with photocatalytic properties. There I got familiar with the research methodology involved in the obtaining and characterisation of functional materials, acquiring knowledge in several fields like nanotechnology, crystal engineering and sustainable processing. This multidisciplinary formation was on the basis of my next position at the University of Bath, UK (2015-2016), where I was hired in the frame of an ERC Consolidator Grant project devoted to the design and development of novel biosensors for personalised diagnosis and disease treatment. Within this venture, I reinforced my 2 expertise areas, the synthesis of coordination compounds and the production of semiconductor-based nanostructured materials, but it further provided me with training on cell growth, cell imaging and in vitro assays. In 2016, I returned to ICV-CSIC to join the project entitled Molecular recognition as the key to sustainable processing of electronic nanocomponents, where I contributed to demonstrate the efficiency of applying different soft chemistry processing strategies to grow microelectronic components with low carbon footprint. The accomplishment of the objectives targeted in the project was on the basis of the research line that I conceived and established at the ICV-CSIC laboratories: the development of new experimental techniques to assemble functional materials for advanced electronics, biosensing and molecular imaging applications. Closely related, I have recently leaded the ComFuturo project Programmable assembly of electronic nanocomponents by bioinspired pathways awarded by the Fundación General CSIC, which aims at further exploring the possibilities of bioinspired processes and biomimetic routines to produce a controlled self-assembly of hierarchical nanomaterials. In September 2022, I joined the Depart. of Inorganic Chemistry at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid with a position as a Lecturer, where I am currently developing my research lines, maintaining a close collaboration with the ICV-CSIC.
