Since her PhD, the research activity of Prof. Peir. has focused on the pathophysiology and pharmacology of the vascular system. The main interconnected research lines that she currently develops are "Mechanisms of premature vascular aging", "Vascular complications associated with obesity and diabetes mellitus", and "Adipokines and vascular pathophysiology" and. Prof. Peir. is one of the two Principal Investigators (PIs) leading the FARMAVASM group (Vascular Pharmacology and Metabolism), acknowledged as an established research group at both Universidad Aut.noma de Madrid (UAM) and the Institute for Health Research of Hospital La Paz (IdiPAZ). Currently, Prof. Peir. has been granted 5 sexenios (6-year periods of research, last one in 2020). She has been a PI of competitive research grants funded by Plan Nacional since 2009 and has recently led a grant funded with European funds via Comunidad de Madrid (REACT-EU) to address the direct cardiovascular impact of SARS-CoV-2 (see Research Projects section below). Prof. Peiró has contributed to 89 publications in JCR listed journals (h index: 35; 4.412 citations; average citations/year over the last 5 years: 388). She has co-directed 12 doctoral theses (7 with Mención Europea/Internacional, 1 in co-tutelle UAM-Universidad de Chile -Dr. G. D.az-Araya-, and 2 with Premio Extraordinario de Doctorado). FARMAVASM holds active international collaborations with research groups in France (Dr. C. Martínez, see publications below), Chili (Dr. G. D.az-Araya, see publications below), Brazil (Dr. R. Santos, see projects below) and Panama (Dra. I. Torres- Atencio, see projects below). She is a member of the European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST) Action ATHERONET, and since 2021 one of the two representatives of UAM at the Council of the Health Hub of the European Universities Alliance CIVIS, financed by the European Union (ERASMUS), where she also leads the working group dedicated to educational and research activities in the domain of Ageing. Prof. Peir. has been a long-time member of the Spanish Society of Pharmacology where she served as part of the Board of Directors between 2014 and 2018. She was also part of the Executive Committee of the European Council for Cardiovascular Research (www.eccr.org; 2011?2014). She collaborates as an external reviewer for different national (AEI, ACSUCYL, UNIBASQ) and international (FONCYT Argentina, NSC Poland, MRC UK, ANR France, U. Chile, U. Sapienza Roma) institutions and evaluation agencies. She regularly serves as a reviewer for top ranked JCR journals (Aging Cell, Hypertension). Prof. Peiró has extensive experience in postgraduate education and researchers training. She coordinated the PhD program in Pharmacology and Physiology (2007-2021) at UAM, and has served as Vice Dean of Postgraduate Studies at the School of Medicine (2011?2015) and Deputy Director of the UAM Multidisciplinary Doctoral School (2018?2021).
