Abstract

Cuando Piotr Kropotkin escribió “Lo que la geografía debe ser” el movimiento obrero europeo se encontraba en pleno auge, a pesar de la represión de los diferentes Estados contra él. La vertiente anarquista del mismo tenía una influencia geográficamente muy diferenciada, pero Kropotkin era uno de sus líderes e intelectuales más influyentes. Este pequeño trabajo es clave para entender sus posiciones respecto a la geografía científica, en la que aboga por el acercamiento a las ciencias naturales y a una enseñanza sobre el terreno, comprensiva y solidaria. También el apoyo mutuo, que favorecería la desaparición de las guerras, y el anticolonialismo, decididamente antirracista, forman parte del núcleo de este escrito. El interés por Kropotkin y las geografías anarquistas no ha dejado de crecer desde los años setenta, y numerosos estudios sobre la ayuda mutua durante la pandemia han recordado los trabajos del geógrafo ruso.
