Abstract

Si bien la historia está plagada de conflictos y enfrentamientos entre pueblos y entidades políticas, lo cierto es que la vía pacífica o no violenta de resolución de conflictos ha existido siempre, conviviendo y solapándose con la vía bélica o violenta, y, por tanto, constituye una realidad histórica que merece ser estudiada. En esta ocasión hemos analizado las fuentes de la Spania tardoantigua y visigoda (ss. V-VII) en busca de voces y testimonios que nos permitan establecer los elementos de una conceptualización de la guerra y la violencia como un mal –es decir, como algo malo y deplorable, con nefastas consecuencias, causante de innúmeros sufrimientos– y de la paz como el bien opuesto deseable y deseado. Para ello, exponemos cinco testimonios concretos: el del historiador Paulo Orosio a comienzos del siglo V; los del conde Bulgarano y el rey Sisebuto dos laicos de comienzos del siglo VII, y los de los obispos Tajón de Zaragoza y Eugenio II de Toledo alrededor del año 653.
