Abstract

A pedunculated exostosis has been identified in one individual recovered from the Hispano-Muslim cemetery of San Nicolás (Ávila, s. XII-XVI; individual 0444). This lesion, located in the inner surface of the left femur, near the distal metaphyseal line, is slightly projected to medial and cephalic direction, and shows at its distal end a rounded and very porotic appearance, giving to the whole structure the aspect of a mushroom lesion. Radiographic study shows the continuity between the cortical of pedunculated exostosis and the femur’s cortical bone, and the cancellous bone portion of the lesion with the adjacent bone marrow cavity. It is proposed a differential diagnosis of various diseases that could present similar images. In this sense, the radiological findings have been crucial, allowing us to conclude that the most likely diagnosis of the lesion is a pedunculated osteochondroma (osteocartilaginous exostosis).
