Abstract

The displacement of tantus to the position of tot, which concerns the concepts of 'magnitude' and 'multitude', gave rise to the grammaticalization of tam magnus, well preserved in Ibero-Romance (tamaño, tamanho). In Spanish tan and cuan are not apocopes of tanto and cuanto, but rather continuations of the Latin tam and quam.
