Abstract

Francesca Woodman (1958-1981, Denver, Colorado) fue una artista que practicó incansablemente el autorretrato. Sin embargo, esta representación constante de su propia imagen no estuvo exenta de engaños, pues aquello que la fotógrafa quiso mostrar sobre sí misma fue un conjunto de representaciones tejidas bajo el hilo de narraciones que hunden sus raíces en la fábula y la mitología. Además, la propia artista mantuvo un juego de espejos con los receptores de sus obras, ya que con frecuencia el autorretrato femenino del que deja testimonio se encuentra fragmentado y parece querer huir de su propia representación atendiendo a los deseos de su autora de trascender los límites impuestos por el medio fotográfico. Así, realizaré una aproximación a su obra a través del tema axial de la metamorfosis, urdida a través de mecanismos como el traslado de las metáforas propias de la poesía a la obra de arte visual.
