Abstract

This article addresses the tensions that arise between the legal status of each individual's citizenship and the fundamental right to freedom of movement. It examines various problems involved in reconciling legal egalitarianism with the sovereign right of each state to limit freedom of movement according to the citizenship held by an individual. Finally, it suggests some possibilities that have been proposed in political philosophy for a radical defense of freedom of movement.
