Abstract

En la Región de Murcia se han construido en la primera década del siglo XXI modernas estaciones de aguas residuales en las que se aplica alta tecnología en depuración, que sustituyen a obsoletas estaciones depuradoras de aguas residuales por sistema de lagunaje, en algunos casos, las antiguas balsas de lagunaje se siguen utilizando como depósitos para uso principalmente agrícola de un agua que previamente ha sido depurada. El objetivo de este artículo es poner de manifiesto, mediante la recopilación de la información disponible, como algunos de estos enclaves se han naturalizado y convertido en refugios de vida silvestre, con presencia de especies amenazadas, por lo que se han declarado como Humedales de Importancia Internacional, razón por la que se consideran como modelo de sostenibilidad que compatibiliza la depuración del agua y su uso agrícola posterior, con la conservación de la biodiversidad
