Descripción Breve de Actividad Realizada

After graduating in Psychology at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (average mark: 8.78), I studied the inter-university master in Cognitive Science and Language (average mark: 8). I did my MSc thesis on bilingual executive control under the supervision of Albert Costa, one of the world-leading academics in the field of bilingualism. After that, I enrolled into a PhD on Biomedicine (with a specialism on Neuroscience) at Universitat Pompeu Fabra, being awarded with a FPU scholarship and supervised by Albert Costa. During my PhD I did three research internships at University Collegue London with Prof. Gabriella Vigliocco. As a result, we published two journal articles. The first, “Coming of age: A review of embodiment and the neuroscience of semantics” was published in Cortex in 2012 (impact factor in the year of publication: 6.161) and accumulates 391 citations, being a highly influential article for embodied cognition. The second article, “Processing advantage for emotional words in bilingual speakers” was published in Emotion in 2015 and has been cited 19 times (impact factor in the year of publication: 3.082). I defended my thesis, entitled “Attenuation of Information during native/non-native interactions” on December 2013, being awarded “Sobresaliente Cum Laude”. A third article was published as a result of my thesis this year, “Foreign talk through word reduction in native/non-native spoken interactions”, in Bilingualism: Language and Cognition (impact factor 3.01), and a forth article is currently in preparation. During the current year, I have also published two further articles, one of them on the first quartile. Regarding research dissemination, I have 25 presentations, mostly in international conferences.

From an academic viewpoint, I started teaching in Higher Education in 2014. The bulk of my experience until 2016 focused on master theses’ supervision with a total of 35 projects (where I also taught on an “Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder” module). However, a significant shift in my career in academia occurred in August 2016, after I was appointed as a lecturer in the Department of Psychology at Edge Hill University (Ormskirk, UK). I consider this to be quite a significant achievement given the competitiveness of these positions, the stage of career in which I was at, and the characteristics of the position (full time and permanent). For the past two years, I have been the module leader of two modules (Introduction of Educational Psychology and Special Educational Needs), where I have created from scratch a module on Psycholinguistics for which I am the module leader too. I have also taught in a variety of other modules (including dissertation supervision), accumulating a total of 378 hours.

During my time at Edge Hill University, I have also being awarded with two competitive funded projects. The first one, entitled “Using sign languages as a tool for second language learning” was awarded £19, 529. This has permitted to hire two research assistants and pay for four studies. Preliminary results have been already disseminated in three conferences and the first article is currently under preparation. The second project, entitled “Exploration and fostering of creative thinking skills on adolescent pupils” received £54,060 and has allowed us to hire a PhD student who is currently finalising her first study. I have just been appointed as an "Ayudante Doctor" at the Autonomous University of Madrid.
