‘Refugees are streaming into Europe’: An image-schema analysis of the Syrian Refugee crisis in the Spanish and British press

Abstract

Este trabajo muestra cómo la prensa de dos países de acogida, España y Reino Unido, conceptualizan a los refugiados sirios a través del uso de una metáfora aparentemente neutra, ‘flujo de refugiados / (in)migrantes’ y ‘flow of refugees / (im)migrants’, en combinación con esquemas de imágenes muy específicos. El análisis, basado en El País y The Guardian durante los años más agudos de la crisis, 2015 y 2016, presenta un estudio cualitativo y contrastivo en castellano e inglés de todos los esquemas identificados (fuerza, camino, arriba-abajo, recipiente y equilibrio), además de un análisis cuantitativo basado en un corpus de noticias de ideología de centro-izquierda, intuitivamente considerada más pro inmigración. En definitiva, el estudio muestra cómo los esquemas de imágenes, estructuras pre conceptuales invisibles, son utilizadas como una poderosa arma ideológica que contribuyen a configurar la imagen de los refugiados como peligro ante la opinión pública.
